IN MEMORY AND RECOGNITION......

I'm compelled
to write a little
something in
honor of the
men
and women
who gave their
lives
for our country......

THE U.S. MILITARY SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN
U.S. MARINES AND ARMY FORCES
 U.S. NAVEL AND AIRFORCES

In the line of duty......

The
heroes we
tend to forget,
yet rely upon in our
hour of need.......

The
people who work in our
emergency services, wherefore
without them would
be unimaginable.

                                      STATE AND LOCAL POLICE

WILDLAND FIRE FIGHTERS

                                  LOCAL FIRE EMT PERSONNEL

EMERGENCY ROOM AND HOSPITAL PERSONNEL

And for those
who lost their lives
and those who assisted on two tragic
days in U.S. history, that of April 19, 1995
in Oklahoma City and that fateful day in Virginia,
Pennsylvania, and New York city
September 11, 2001.........

IN MEMORY OF THE MANY LIVES LOST......

AND TO THOSE SERVING AND WORKING TO KEEP US SAFE   ABROAD AND HERE AT HOME......

THANK YOU
Honesty is the cruelest virtue of all, because not only can you hurt someone - and hurt them to the bone - you will hurt yourself never realizing its coming.

Love is all around us like the air and is the very breath of our being. But we cannot know it, feel its unfeeling touch, until we pause in our busy-ness, are still and poised and empty of our wanting and desiring. When at rest the air is easily offended and will flee even from the fanning of a leaf, as love flees from the first thought. But when the air or love moves of its own accord it is a hurricane that drives all before it.

For You My Friends

Life without friends is just no life at all, call it as mere existence.

It is a friend who brings color to your barren solitary life. We cannot live alone, we need a shelter to come back to, to confide to.

This role is aptly played by friends who become your confidante. A good friend is like your shelter, he/she is someone you can fall back on in time of distress.

Through the ages poets have tried to capture the feeling of friendship through their writings and in doing so, have immortalize the relation of friendship through their poems.

For You My Friends

Some people come into our lives,
leave footprints in our hearts,
and we are never the same.

Befitting A Queen Or King

Ok, it's been a while since I touched on any of my Etsy friend's shops, so today I thought would be a good day to do so.  I invite you to stop by a new pals shop ROCKNROYALJEWELRY and have a browse at her sweet works.  Kim's beautiful creations include handmade jewelry and leather wrap bracelets.  She's an east coast gal and loves creating her handmade jewelry.  Anytime we cross paths in Etsy chat, she's always so pleasant, easy to talk with, and excited to tell me of her newest creation!

Here are some of my fave pieces.......

I've grooved on this pair of hoop earrings from the onslot.  It's something about the maltese crosses that make this pair a simple but powerful pair of earrings to me.

Her photographic presentation captures the true essences and uniqueness of her pieces as is reflected in this awesome peace ring.

Another form of her creations are that of bracelets. Here shes combined the strong but subtle wraps of metallic greek leather with grey peacock fresh water pearls and added an awesome vintage silver button.

Her favorite materials are stones, leather, silver, but most importantly, coffee, chocolate, and music.  Yummie coffee and chocolate!!

Do stop bye Kim's RockNRoyalJewelry shop as I'm certain you'll be as impressed as I and believe you'll find that her creations are high quality, fashionable, and beautiful pieces to last the ages!!
This is what customers have to say about RockNRoyalJewelry:

"Amazing to work with and so sweet! Love my bracelet and was shipped promptly! Beautifully made and i've only had it on for a couple of hours and have already had some compliments!"

"This is an absolutely beautiful bracelet. I could not be more pleased. Thank you."

"It's beautiful! I cant wait to show it off!!"

The Children

One area of vintagicity that has always been a huge part of my life, even as a kid,  is that of vintage prints and lithos of children.  Here I've assembled a collection of some of my favorite prints to share with you.  Some were passed on to me from my mother and the others were found through my years of junq'n.  I hope you enjoy as much as I.

Remember the Northern Tissue "American Beauty" girls?  Here are 3 examples of the original prints of which at the time were offered by mail order and advertised to promote Northern Tissues softness.

   AMERICAN BEAUTY RAVEN

AMERICAN BEAUTY BLONDE

AMERICAN BEAUTY BRUNETTE

Advertising prints have always been a fave especially when they included children.  Its how the kids are depicted and drawn in the prints, it's the era, style of clothing, etc.

Here is an original 60's piece that was used in the Advertisement of Skippy Peanut Butter that I found at a flea market in northern California some years ago.  This is my favorite piece of all.

These are a couple prints handed down from my dear Ma that she loved dearly.

This is another original advertising print from the 30's or 40's from American Radiators and Ideal Boilers.   The coolness to this print for me is that it reminds me of two friends playing with their dollies and of the simplest of times.

Mom was very fond of this print as it reminded her of one of my nephews as a child.   It's a Ceresota Flour Advertising print by Esther J. Smith  from the early 70's depicting a mother and child from the 40's.

Bessie Pease Gutmann has been my all time favorite children's artist.  Her works are arguably some of the best in the world.

"In Disgrace" Is perhaps one of Gutmanns most printed and recognized works.  It has been copied by countless others  but none have captured the true essence.

Another is "The Reward" which is also another very popular and well circulated print of Gutmann's.

Children are the ultimate gift to two people who love each other and the ultimate inconvenience to parents that don't. There is no bigger responsibility, and yet a relationship with a child can bear the greatest rewards. Children intuitively know when they are wanted and when they are not. The way that they raised from the cradle will affect the people they will become. There is a famous saying that children spell love T I M E. There may be many compelling reasons why you cannot be with your children but none of them can replace time. It is gone forever.

MOM

God's greatest gift to man is that of woman and child.

"By and large, mothers and housewives are the only workers who do not have regular time off. They are the great vacationless class." -- Anne Morrow Lindbergh

"The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother."

How much I love you I can't say:
It's more than words can hold.
You're all at once my rich, red clay,
My potter and my mold.

Yours the words that shaped my voice,
The spirit within mine.
Yours the will that shaped my choice,
My fortune, and my sign.

How lucky I was to have had you
At the core of me!
Wise and good, you always knew
Just what I could be.
And so I came to be someone
Whom I could be proud of.
For this I give my swollen sum
Of gratitude and love.

Here is a bouquet for all you Mom's and I hope your day is filled with love, laughter, family and friends.
 HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

In Loving Memory Of My Wonderful Mother

Books Of Grandeur

One of my most pleasurable hunts is for vintage or antique books.  Leather bound books are my favorite.  Pre WWII are most exciting to find.  Although I'm not one to sit and read chapter after chapter of any given book, it's the allure of finding a quality leather bound book and to sit an wonder how many hands that given book may have passed through.  Another thing about antique and vintage books are their odors.  It's that of a musty almost mold like smell that I enjoy, provided it is not mold ridden or too heavily odored.

My hunts today put me in the path of a wonder antique book titled "It Can Be Done".  This is a book of inspirational poems that's copyrighted 1921.  Almost 90 years old, this book was well cared for.  It just amazes me to find a book in such good condition and one must know that it was well loved.  Have ya ever heard anyone say "Oh I loved that book" or "I love that author"?  That's how I feel about books such as these.

You'd be surprised at how many wonderful antique and vintage books are bypassed for the more modern Nora Roberts or Stephen King novels.  How many of these fine books make their way to landfills and libraries depends on how many we can rescue. So next time your out and about, have a good look at the book shelves, as the one antique book you find may turn out to be your most treasured.
