The Children

One area of vintagicity that has always been a huge part of my life, even as a kid,  is that of vintage prints and lithos of children.  Here I've assembled a collection of some of my favorite prints to share with you.  Some were passed on to me from my mother and the others were found through my years of junq'n.  I hope you enjoy as much as I.

Remember the Northern Tissue "American Beauty" girls?  Here are 3 examples of the original prints of which at the time were offered by mail order and advertised to promote Northern Tissues softness.

   AMERICAN BEAUTY RAVEN

AMERICAN BEAUTY BLONDE

AMERICAN BEAUTY BRUNETTE

Advertising prints have always been a fave especially when they included children.  Its how the kids are depicted and drawn in the prints, it's the era, style of clothing, etc.

Here is an original 60's piece that was used in the Advertisement of Skippy Peanut Butter that I found at a flea market in northern California some years ago.  This is my favorite piece of all.

These are a couple prints handed down from my dear Ma that she loved dearly.

This is another original advertising print from the 30's or 40's from American Radiators and Ideal Boilers.   The coolness to this print for me is that it reminds me of two friends playing with their dollies and of the simplest of times.

Mom was very fond of this print as it reminded her of one of my nephews as a child.   It's a Ceresota Flour Advertising print by Esther J. Smith  from the early 70's depicting a mother and child from the 40's.

Bessie Pease Gutmann has been my all time favorite children's artist.  Her works are arguably some of the best in the world.

"In Disgrace" Is perhaps one of Gutmanns most printed and recognized works.  It has been copied by countless others  but none have captured the true essence.

Another is "The Reward" which is also another very popular and well circulated print of Gutmann's.

Children are the ultimate gift to two people who love each other and the ultimate inconvenience to parents that don't. There is no bigger responsibility, and yet a relationship with a child can bear the greatest rewards. Children intuitively know when they are wanted and when they are not. The way that they raised from the cradle will affect the people they will become. There is a famous saying that children spell love T I M E. There may be many compelling reasons why you cannot be with your children but none of them can replace time. It is gone forever.

These are great, Dave! I especially love the ones of the child and the dog. Maybe because it reminds me of my own child and dog. Such a special relationship the two have.

Thanks for your comment Michelle!! Yes, the two Gutmann prints are faves, especially "in disgrace" cuz it almost appears as thought the dog's lookin back at Ma or Pa as if to say "are you gonna let her outta the corner yet?" LOL. So funny as my youngest step daughter once told her grandma, "Grandma, when I get old, I'm gonna buy me a round house". LOL!! Tell's a lil about disciplinary actions here at this house, hehe. Thanks again for your visit and glad you liked.
