WHIMSICALLY YOURS

I'd like to introduce you to another wonder Etsy member and shop owner that I've come to know and respect.   Her works are that of which I found to be wonderfully creative and unique.  Not only was I impressed with her creative knit works, her photography of these works stood out in a unique and subtle alluring fashion.

This is ....

SARABELLKNITS

I hope you enjoy my interview with this wonderfully whimscal gal along with some pics of her beautiful creative works....

Who is the person behind Sarabellknits? Tell a little about yourself.

My name is Sara Zinn, Sarabell was a nickname one of my best friends started calling me, so I ran with it. I live in CT with my boyfriend, my 2 rats and rat terrier dog. I just recently graduated from art school, and ended up with a BFA in photography. I still work with photography (At both a portrait studio, teaching photography classes, and my own artwork). I apply my creativity also to my knitting, and spend a lot of time designing and brainstorming new ideas. Knitting, for me, just another way to express my creativity.

Hi Sara!

What brought you to Etsy?

I believe I stumbled upon Etsy one day
browsing the internet
(think actually while I was in class) and
the idea of selling my handmade items
stuck with me. I had already began
designing and creating my headbands,
along with a couple scarves. One day,
I just decided to do it and I made a shop
for myself (it wasn't very good to start,
but I've got the hang of it now!).

Beautiful fingerless knit gloves

What does a day at Sarabellknits consist of?

When I'm not working at the portrait studio, or teaching photography, I'm probably knitting new pieces for Sarabell. Recently I've been experimenting with naturally dyeing yarn, and hope to begin spinning my own dyed yarn soon! But on a typical day I'm usually in my studio (Which is the corner of the living room in my apartment) and knitting up either new ideas, putting together new headbands, or working on custom orders for my friends :)

What or who inspires you?

Taylors "Moth Dancer"
When I was in art school working on a piece,
I would always become inspired by other pieces
of art that were either magical or whimsical, especially
by my favorite photographer Maggie Taylor.
I don't really know why I'm so inspired by fairy tales
and magic, but I am, and my
work reflects that. Perhaps its the kid in me :)

What do you find most challenging running your own business?

Keeping organized, especially the business end of it. It was a lot harder when I was in school (dealing with a full load of classes, 2 part time jobs, and STILL finding time to run my business!) Now that I have a little more time, I can focus more on improving my business and things like that.

Where do you hope to see Sarabellknits in the next year?

My goal is to market myself A LOT in the next year, on etsy as well as in person. I want to sell more of my pieces to local shops. Like I said before, I want to begin spinning yarn and working with that, so another goal for me is to get a spindle and find a local place to purchase roving!

Come One Come All!!

My readers and I want to know....

Are you a morning person or night owl?

Definitely a night owl. I got to stay up and watch my Robot chicken!

If you became a millionaire overnight what would be the first thing you'd buy?

Hmmm, thats a tough question. At the moment? A car. Because I don't have one right now :(
Too much??

What was the last thing you bought?

A coffee...gotta love Dunkin Donuts :)

Whats the farthest place from home that you've been?

I think it was when we went to a cruise to the Bahamas. Which was AWESOME!

One word that describes you?
Whimsical

What's under your
 bed right now?

What, no dust bunnies like under mine?
A box of boxes
(gift boxes to
 ship my items)
and probably the dogs
 tennis ball.

If you could eat lunch with someone famous who would that be?

I would totally want to chill with Natalie Portman. She seems like a really cool person.

Gosh remember her first major role as "Matilda" in The Professional?

I hope you've enjoyed this interview with Sara and got to know a little bit about her.  She and I would love for you to stop by and visit her shop.  You can do so by clicking either of the links shown....

A special THANKS to Sara for
taking the time to humor me and
 allowing me the interview.
